Meghan Markle Reveals She Dashed Home from Paris to See Her 'Babies'

Meghan Markle has disclosed that she made a 6,000-mile journey from Paris to California for just one day to see her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, before continuing her work trip to New York. The Duchess of Sussex spoke about the detour during Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington DC on Tuesday.

After attending Paris Fashion Week for the Balenciaga show, Meghan flew home to Montecito instead of heading directly to New York, where she later received a humanitarian award. In conversation with Fortune editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell, Meghan explained: 'Everyone said, 'Oh you must have gone from Paris straight to New York.' I said, 'No, I need to see my babies.' So I went back to California for a day and then continued on.'

Meghan also reflected on the early days after she and Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020. She described the period as one of 'nesting and healing,' with no concrete plan beyond creating community. 'Archie was so little, and I had just got pregnant with Lili around that same time,' she said. 'There was no plan. It was just, let's get through these next couple of years.'

The Duchess shared that during those years, she spent time in 'Birkenstocks and sweats,' making jam, which later inspired her business, As Ever. She noted that while people expected her to venture into fashion or beauty, her passion project grew from her home life.
