Meghan Markle has been given the unflattering nickname 'Salmonella Sussex' after critics spotted a hygiene error in her Thanksgiving cooking video. The Duchess of Sussex shared footage of herself seasoning a raw turkey while wearing jewellery, prompting accusations of poor food handling.
In the video posted on her Instagram story, Meghan is seen stuffing the bird and adding pepper, herbs, and citrus zest. However, viewers were quick to point out that she kept her rings and bracelets on while handling the raw meat. One commenter said: 'So gross, and it's basic food handling knowledge. Proof she has no idea what she's doing.' Another added: 'I don't know anyone who wears their rings and bracelets when handling food, especially a turkey. Guaranteed spread of bacteria.'
The criticism comes as Meghan promoted her lifestyle brand As Ever in a newsletter, expressing gratitude to supporters. She wrote: 'I am so thankful for your support and warmth as we've grown As Ever throughout the year.' The 44-year-old also revealed she hosted friends and family at her Montecito home for Thanksgiving.
Separately, Meghan and Prince Harry made a rare public appearance with their children, Archie and Lilibet, at Our Big Kitchen in Los Angeles. The family volunteered at the charity, which provides meals for those in need, ahead of the holiday. A video montage showed the couple baking cookies and packing meals, with Meghan captioning the post: 'Show up. Do Good.'
