Meghan Markle's 'nauseating' post proves she is not like Royal Family
Meghan Markle's 'nauseating' post shows Royal Family difference

The Duchess of Sussex's latest social media post has been criticised as 'nauseating' by a columnist who claims it proves she is fundamentally different from other members of the Royal Family.

Meghan, 45, shared a post on Instagram about her "entrepreneurial spirit" as she reflected on the journey since launching her As Ever brand. She spoke about starting her own business at the age of eight and said she has to pinch herself "looking at how this brand has grown".

Columnist's criticism

News Corp columnist Angela Mollard described the post as "nauseating" and said it shows why Meghan no longer fits into the Royal Family. Speaking on News24, Mollard said: "It's quite nauseatingly, actually. I get to the point now with Meghan where her lack of self-examination is evident. She spent three quarters of this post self-congratulating herself, and then there's a small mention of how some other people have helped her get there."

Mollard questioned whether the post was written in an American way, "or perhaps a Meghan way", but noted that this is not how the Royal Family operates.

Royal contrast

"I know she's not a member of the Royal Family, but it's all about 'Brand Meghan.' I accept she is a businesswoman now, and she's straddling that sort of celebrity access, but she is also trying to stay royal-adjacent at the same time," Mollard continued.

"Absolutely, if you look at any posts conversely by the royal family, they always focus on the people or the charity they are with. If it's a cancer charity, the light is always being shone on someone else." She added that the main purpose of the monarchy is to "shed light on others", while Meghan focuses her energy on "self-platforming".

Ongoing royal status

Mollard went on: "Look, she should go for a life, as she is a businesswoman and she can do it. I kind of like the stuff with the raspberries on her fingers because we get a bit of an insight into the mother she is. But it is never going to go well in Britain. You know how the Brits work, they don't like anyone, a bit like us in Australia, standing on a pedestal and shouting it. Brand Meghan – she just misses the mark."

Shortly after Meghan and Prince Harry returned to the UK at the end of August, a letter was sent on behalf of King Charles to confirm that their position within the Royal Family had not changed, and they would remain non-working royals. The letter stated that the Sussexes would not be able to use the titles of "His and Her Royal Highness" and remain "private citizens". Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020 and relocated to Montecito in California.
