Meghan Markle has been dubbed "too famous" to make a return to her acting career. Prior to joining the Royal Family in 2020, the 45-year-old prided herself on being a successful actress, with her most prominent role in the US legal drama Suits.
Speculation over The Gentlemen role
Amid reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are due to return to the UK within days, there has been speculation that Meghan could be returning to her acting roots. It was reported that Meghan was in the running for a role in the third series of Guy Ritchie's Netflix gangster series The Gentlemen.
Despite this, there is now speculation that Meghan's speculated role in The Gentlemen was, according to royal author Tina Brown, "off".
Brand concerns raised
In her recent article about Meghan, TV editor Emily Baker wrote that she believes the former working royal is now "too famous" to return to her roots.
She wrote: "But it's down to more than just her acting ability. she is far too famous and, frankly, far too divisive to ever return to her old life.
"She has spent the past five years playing the part of Meghan – wife, mother, homemaker, jam seller. The jump back to actor is just too much of a stretch after all the work she's done to turn herself into a brand."
Ms Baker added: "The integrity of any character, storyline, film or series would be immediately undermined by her presence – all we'd see is the Duchess of Sussex pretending to be someone else."
Upcoming UK return
With the Sussexes' return just days away, King Charles is said to welcome the opportunity to see more of the family, both in a private and personal capacity. Prince William and Princess Catherine were also reportedly made aware of the Sussexes' shock decision.
Harry and Meghan, who reportedly already have their UK base sorted, have enrolled their two children on British schools.
