Meghan Markle has spoken about Princess Lilibet’s first day at preschool in a new interview. The Duchess of Sussex’s second child, who turned five in June, has already begun her early education.
A Nostalgic Encounter at Drop-Off
Meghan, who turned 45 on Tuesday, August 4, gave an interview to People magazine while promoting her latest film, Cookie Queens. The documentary follows four girls who “strive to be a top-selling 'Cookie Queen,' navigating an $800 million business in which childhood and ambition collide.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex executive-produced it through Archewell Productions.
The duchess said that working on the documentary reminded her of her own childhood as a Girl Scout, and she reminisced about a sweet surprise during Lilibet’s first day at preschool. She said: “Funny enough, on Lili’s first day of pre-K, one of the mums came up to me at drop-off, and I realised we were in our troop together! It was so sweet and nostalgic.”
Background and Impact
Pre-K refers to Kindergarten, an early education programme in the US for ages 4-5. The closest equivalent in the UK is reception. Meghan was a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout while growing up in Los Angeles, with her mother, Doria Ragland, serving as her troop leader.
The duchess said the film reinforces the importance of empowering young girls. She said: “These girls are our future leaders and amazing role models. I found this element of the film so important; showing young female entrepreneurs, girls with financial literacy, skills that will set them up for future success, and learning how to work to achieve their goals is so inspiring.”
