Meghan Markle has responded to Martha Stewart's claim that the Duchess had been talking about her recent UK trip at a dinner party in California. The response comes after Stewart told People Magazine that Meghan was discussing her meeting with King Charles at the dinner.
Background of the Royal Visit
King Charles and Queen Camilla met with Prince Harry, Meghan, and their two children at Highgrove, the King's Cotswolds estate, on July 10. This was the first time the monarch had seen his young grandchildren in over four years, but no pictures or details of the reunion have emerged.
A source told Vanity Fair: “The King wanted to see Harry and the children. A time was agreed for the Sussexes to come to Highgrove on Friday afternoon, and it was uncharacteristically last-minute for the king. Everyone was sworn to secrecy so that the meeting could remain private.”
Martha Stewart's Claim
Despite the call for discretion, Stewart said that Meghan had been “talking about” the Sussexes' visit during a dinner party in California. The TV cook, businesswoman, and writer told People Magazine: “I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn't talk to her really more than to say a couple of words, but I know she was talking about it.”
Meghan's Response
A source close to Meghan has insisted that she didn't discuss the family's visit with the King and Queen, only saying she'd enjoyed the trip to Europe. The pair reportedly didn't sit close to each other during dinner. The insider told The Mirror: “Meghan was asked by someone else about her European vacation and said it was nice, and that was the extent of it. I think (Stewart) must have been confused.” They added that, despite the difference of opinion, Meghan remains a “fan” of Stewart.
Stewart's Comments on Meghan's Cooking Show
Stewart also spoke about the Duchess “stepping into (her) space” with her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan. She said: “If you're an actress, it's hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn't sort of follow. So go from there.” She previously said that she hopes Meghan “knows what she's talking about” in the lifestyle space, adding: “Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.”
