The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have “proved they haven’t learnt anything” in their time away from the Royal Family, an expert has claimed, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK following six years in America.
Yesterday, the King released a letter clarifying that the Sussexes will be non-working royals. It said that the couple will not use “His and Her Royal Highness” titles and remain “private citizens”.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said that they “were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance”, reportedly only being made aware of the letter an hour before it was sent to the media.
Expert Says Couple 'Like Drama'
Author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in Their Own Words, Phil Dampier, said he believes “Harry and Meghan like drama”.
“The fact that they’ve reacted to this letter and said they were surprised by it shows they haven’t learned,” he told The Sun.
“The fear is that once they start doing charity jobs and turning up for various functions, they will look like royals, talk like royals, and call themselves the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but of course they aren’t working royals.
“So obviously, the Palace has had to make it extremely clear to everyone that even when people see them out and about, they are not representing the Royal Family.”
Concerns Over Overshadowing Waleses
There are also concerns that the Sussexes will be using their outings to steal the spotlight from the Waleses. Dampier added: “When Harry and Meghan are out and about, who’s to say they won’t time things deliberately to overshadow other members of the Royal Family, particularly William and Catherine?
“I think they’re trying it on. No one was expecting them to come back, so no one had time to figure out what to do about it.”
Prince Harry has been seen for the first time since he and his family moved back to the UK. He was spotted yesterday entering a podcast studio in central London.
The Sussexes moved back to the UK a few weeks ago, rumoured to be purchasing a home in the Cotswolds. Harry and Meghan have reportedly registered their children at a local private school.
