Lorraine Kelly sent her well-wishes to Sir Michael Palin after the 83-year-old actor and writer was forced to cancel his book tour following a fall.
On Wednesday's instalment of Lorraine's ITV show (October 14), the Scottish presenter informed viewers that Sir Michael Palin, who has often appeared on her programme over the years, has had to cancel his book tour after hurting himself.
Lorraine commented: "Sir Michael Palin was here last Monday talking about his new book, always a delight to have him on the show. It's an account of his tour of the Philippines."
Three broken ribs and a fractured pelvis
"Well, very sad news this morning, he's had to cancel the rest of his book tour after a fall left him with three broken ribs and a fractured pelvis."
After reading out his statement, she added: "We obviously are sending Sir Michael our very best wishes. Hope he gets better soon because he is so important to the world, to be honest."
The Monty Python star was set to visit a plethora of venues across the UK this month to promote his travel book, but the nationwide event, along with other plans, is no longer happening.
Statement on Instagram
Sharing a statement on the matter, the writer took to Instagram as he wrote: "My accident was quite unsensational, a slip in the family bathroom where I've walked for 58 years.
"I fell heavily on my left side, resulting in three fractured ribs and a minor pelvic fracture. The recovery of bone fractures takes a long time, especially when you're 83."
"It was a comedy fall with no audience there to see it. I shall stick to fish slapping dances from now on. Sincere apologies to everyone who has already put in a lot of work on the tour. I'd also like to say a huge thanks to the NHS for their incredible care."
Tour postponed with rescheduled dates
On Sir Michael's official website, they informed viewers that it was with 'great regret' the UK tour was being postponed, informing people that there would be 'rescheduled dates' as soon as they were available.
A statement said: "Michael apologises to everyone who bought tickets and thanks you for your understanding, and can't wait to see you on the rescheduled date."
People were quick to comment on Sir Michael's post, with many also sending their well wishes. Lauren Laverne said: "So sorry to hear this and sending love and best wishes for a swift recovery to Michael x"
Someone else wrote: "Michael Palin is a global treasure and must be protected at all costs." As another commented: "Get well soon!"
Whilst the Michael Palin Centre wrote: "Oh dear! That does not sound ideal. Glad to hear you are being looked after. Wishing you a swift recovery, with love and best wishes from all at the Michael Palin Centre."
Lorraine continues weekdays on ITV from 9am.
