The Princess of Wales and Melania Trump hosted a group of young Scouts from Lewisham, south London, during a nature-themed event on the Windsor Castle estate. The 20 Squirrel Scouts, aged four to five, were taking part in activities to earn their Go Wild badges when they received a special treat from the two dignitaries.
Kate, joint president of the Scouts, organised a packed lunch for the children featuring sandwiches made with honey from Anmer Hall, her Norfolk home. Mrs Trump also brought gifts: a jar of White House honey for each child. The event took place in the gardens of Frogmore House, a former royal residence in Windsor Home Park, near the castle.
The gathering followed a lavish state banquet at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening for US President Donald Trump, who was on a second historic state visit to the UK. Chief Scout Dwayne Fields praised the princess's involvement, saying, 'Having someone with the profile of the Princess of Wales as joint president, you can imagine it's incredible for the young people to see her.'
The Queen, a keen apiarist, also keeps bees at her retreat in Lacock, Wiltshire. The event highlighted the scouts' nature activities and the diplomatic exchange of honey between the UK and US first families.
