Lady Louise Windsor honoured her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, by wearing a silver horse necklace during the vigil at Westminster Hall on Saturday. The 18-year-old royal, who is known for her love of horses, chose the pendant as a subtle nod to the shared passion she had with the Queen.
Unlike many senior royals who wore traditional pearl accessories for mourning, Lady Louise paired the necklace with a simple black outfit and a padded headband instead of a veil or hat. She joined the Queen's grandchildren, including Princes William and Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and others, in a formation vigil.
Lady Louise was considered one of the Queen's favourite grandchildren and shared a special bond over horses. She also enjoyed carriage driving with her grandfather, Prince Philip, who helped pioneer the sport. Speaking in a BBC programme, she recalled how his eyes would light up when discussing carriage driving.
Her mother, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, previously noted that despite the royal setting, the Queen and Lady Louise had a relationship like any grandmother and granddaughter. The Queen was often seen cheering Lady Louise on at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
