Kylie Kelce, Taylor Swift's sister-in-law, has apologised to Princess Catherine after referring to her as "Princess Kate" on her podcast, "Not Gonna Lie".
In a recent episode, Kelce addressed the incident directly to the Princess of Wales, saying she had not realised the shortened name caused offence.
Apology issued on podcast
"I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine Princess Kate was offensive," the 34-year-old said. "I didn't know that. Now I know that. Now I will proceed accordingly."
She added: "I apologise for the mistake. I would like to refer to people in the most respectful way and how they feel respected."
Kelce then spoke directly to the royal: "Princess Catherine, or the Princess of Wales, I apologise. I will get that sorted immediately, starting now."
Invitation to Princess Catherine
The apology follows the September 24 episode of her podcast, where Kelce addressed the princess as "Princess Kate" and extended an open invitation to her.
Speaking on the podcast, she said: "Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids. I don't know. We got a couple things in common."
Kelce also mentioned that their husbands, Prince William and Jason Kelce, had already crossed paths. "Our husbands chitchatted on the other podcast," she said, referencing Prince William's appearance in July on New Heights, the podcast hosted by her husband, retired NFL star Jason Kelce, and his brother Travis Kelce.
Change in royal title
Since September 2022, Catherine's formal title has been Catherine, Princess of Wales. The royal's titles can change when there are changes in the family.
When King Charles acceded to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William inherited the Wales title. Before this, Princess Catherine held the title Duchess of Cambridge following her 2011 marriage to the prince.
