Fans are cancelling their pre-orders for the £350 GTA 6 collector's edition after Rockstar sent influencers special packages that many consider better value. The collector's box, which does not include the game, costs £349.99 and contains Vice City-themed items such as sunglasses, a crossbody bag, a snapback hat, a magnetic mirror, a shot glass, a swizzle spoon, and a double-sided poster.
Influencer packages spark backlash
Following the box's reveal last week, several high-profile influencers received their own GTA 6 packages from Rockstar. As noted in a YouTube video by TmarTn2, the influencer package includes a Rockstar hat, a Vice City T-shirt, stickers, a zippo lighter, and a tote bag. Although there are fewer items, they are considered more practical than a magnetic mirror or a swizzle spoon, and the hat is seen as more visually appealing than the collector's edition design.
Other variants of the merchandise have been sent to different content creators, with one featuring a white T-shirt and a black Rockstar hat. After this was shared on X by Rockstar sleuth @videotech, users commented that they preferred the influencer package over the collector's edition.
Fans threaten to cancel pre-orders
One X user wrote: 'It p***es me off that the general public can't have this s***,' adding, 'I would pay a S***LOAD [f]or all of this c***.' Another commented: 'Better than the collector's edition.' More variants of the GTA 6 package have appeared with different shirts, hats, and a money clip.
Others vowed to cancel their pre-orders for the collector's box. One wrote: 'Yeh, that collectors edition is definitely getting cancelled now,' while another said: 'Yeah, I think I'm cancelling my collector box [sic].'
At the time of writing, none of the items in the influencer packages are currently for sale on Rockstar's website, though they may appear later. Ahead of the game's launch on November 19, marketing has ramped up significantly in the US, with signs in Miami and murals in New York City.
