King Charles 'real reason' for Harry and Meghan royal status statement
King Charles 'real reason' for Harry and Meghan status statement

King Charles issued a statement on Monday clarifying the royal status of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, prompting widespread speculation about his true motive behind the move.

The King confirmed there had been no shift in the status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex following their return to the UK last month. Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, and King Charles made clear they will continue as non-working royals despite their UK return.

GB News commentators clash over decision

During a GB News appearance, Kevin Maguire accused the presenters of putting the Royal Family "on a pedestal" and branded King Charles's decision as "very harsh". He said: "He didn't have to do it. He could have said to them privately, 'Do not use your royal connections. If I catch you doing it, I'll have to do something about it.'"

Dr Renee Hoenderkamp fired back, insisting that King Charles absolutely had to take action. GB News presenter Andrew Pierce suggested the letter was actually aimed at charities and organisations, telling them no red carpet should be rolled out if Harry and Meghan turn up to events as they are simply "ordinary people", reports the Express.

Speculation over the King's real motive

Renee added: "Not for the first time, I think Kevin is wrong. I think they had to do it because they've suddenly done something they said they would never do and come back to this family that they accused of being racist and toxic. They've broken all the rules that they laid out to start with. Looking at their previous behaviour and how they have milked their royal connections without wanting to be part of the Royal Family, apparently, I think he absolutely had to do it."

Speculating on the real motive behind King Charles' statement, she added: "I think he had to do it for William." Miriam described it as "quite a slapdown" for Harry to have King Charles publicly issue such a statement.

Kevin concurred, confessing that while he understands Harry and Meghan "trashed" the royal family when they stepped down, he believes King Charles' decision was "cold". "What a cold father who is putting the institution way ahead of the relationship with his son," he commented.
