King Charles has postponed his state visit to Germany on medical advice, Buckingham Palace has announced. The decision comes just days before the trip was scheduled to begin, with the monarch advised to rest following a period of ill health.
The visit, which was to have included stops in Berlin and Hamburg, was intended to strengthen ties between the UK and Germany. It would have been the King's first state visit abroad since his accession, following a postponed trip to France due to protests.
A palace spokesperson said the King was 'disappointed' to cancel but that doctors had advised a period of 'minimal activity'. The Queen Consort, Camilla, will also not travel. The visit is expected to be rescheduled for later this year.
German officials expressed understanding, with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier wishing the King a speedy recovery. The trip had been seen as a key diplomatic gesture to rebuild relations with European allies after Brexit.
