King Charles has made a 'big mistake' by requesting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle vacate Frogmore Cottage and reportedly offering it to Prince Andrew, according to royal expert Dr Tessa Dunlop. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they have been asked to leave their UK home, a move that has left them 'stunned'.
Dr Dunlop, a historian and author, believes the King's actions go against the conciliatory approach of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who tried to keep Harry on board. She told the Mirror that the 'optics are terrible' and that the King has conflated the separate issues of Harry and Andrew through the prism of Frogmore Cottage.
The eviction follows the publication of Harry's explosive memoir, and comes just weeks before the Coronation. Dr Dunlop warned that while public opinion in the UK may support the King, the move could 'diminish' the monarchy internationally. She added that the King appears to care more for his 'disgraced brother' than his 'conflicted son and foreign daughter-in-law'.
Prince Andrew has been asked to leave his 30-room home, Royal Lodge, and move into Frogmore Cottage. Dr Dunlop described this as a 'big mistake', noting that the late Queen was lenient with both Harry and Andrew, but Charles has undone those efforts.
