King Charles has offered Prince Harry a room at Buckingham Palace for his next UK visit in September, according to reports. The offer comes despite the Duke of Sussex's unflattering descriptions of his father in his autobiography 'Spare'.
Previous Offer Rescinded
Earlier this month, the King offered the Sussexes accommodation at Buckingham Palace for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. However, the offer was rescinded when the Sussexes' confirmation came too late, reportedly due to concerns over taxpayer-funded police protection.
King Charles and Queen Camilla did meet Harry and his family privately at Highgrove, away from cameras.
September Visit
The 41-year-old Duke is set to return from California for engagements including the annual WellChild Awards. Sources claim he will accept the King's offer with plenty of notice this time. It has previously been stated that Harry must give the Royal Household 28 days' notice of his arrival in the UK. It remains unknown if Meghan and their children will join him.
Background of Tensions
In 'Spare', Harry made several claims about his father, including that Charles praised Diana for giving him an heir and a spare, and that Charles woke him to break the news of his mother's death but did not hug him. Harry also suggested his father prioritised media coverage over his wellbeing.
Harry's comments about Queen Camilla were described as far worse, branding her a "wicked stepmother" and accusing her of sacrificing him "on her personal PR altar" by allegedly rehabilitating her own image through briefings against him. He also made claims about his brother William and sister-in-law Catherine, including accusing them of being complicit in his decision to wear a Nazi outfit at a fancy dress party.
