A recent YouGov poll has revealed that 68% of Britons believe King Charles is performing well as monarch, with only 16% saying he is doing a bad job. The survey was conducted between July 21 and 22 as the 77-year-old king approaches the fourth year of his reign.
Charles ascended the throne in 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8 that year. He was crowned on May 6, 2023. The poll suggests that any earlier mixed feelings about the King have largely dissipated, with a clear majority now satisfied with his performance.
Sir Clive Alderton to Step Down
This news comes shortly after it was announced that Sir Clive Alderton, a key aide who has helped King Charles in his role, will step down after 20 years of service next May. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated: "The King and Queen are deeply grateful to Clive for his tireless support and wise counsel over the years, and for the enduring loyalty that will ensure a smooth transition to his successor."
Sir Clive has pledged to ensure a seamless handover, and applicants for his position will be considered both internally and externally.
