Prince Harry met King Charles at Clarence House on Wednesday for a private tea lasting 54 minutes, their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months. The Duke of Sussex arrived at 5.20pm in a black Range Rover and departed at 6.14pm, following an earlier engagement at the Centre for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College London.
The meeting comes after Harry publicly expressed hopes of reconciliation with his family in a BBC interview in May. Asked how his father was at an Invictus reception later that evening, Harry replied: “Yes, he’s great, thank you.” The king, who is undergoing cancer treatment, travelled from Balmoral to London for the meeting.
Harry last saw his father in February 2024, shortly after the king’s cancer diagnosis. Their relationship has been strained since Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, his Netflix documentary, and his autobiography Spare. Harry remains estranged from his brother, Prince William, who was in Cardiff on Wednesday.
Senior aides to the king and Harry were pictured together in July, reportedly an initial step towards opening communication channels. Charles will host US President Donald Trump at Windsor Castle next week.
