Kelly Osbourne: I'll never recover from Ozzy's death

Kelly Osbourne has said that her son is the reason she carries on after dad Ozzy's death "destroyed" her, admitting: "I will always be 50% sad."

The TV personality, 41, spoke to the Mirror about her overwhelming grief following the Black Sabbath rocker's death last year which left her very unwell.

'I'll never be the person I was before'

Seven months on from her appearance at the BRITs with mum Sharon, which sparked a flurry of cruel comments online, Kelly graced the NTAs red carpet and appeared positive about the future. However, she said that her sadness would always be present as she is "completely different" now.

"You can't know anything about grief until you experience it for yourself," she said on Tuesday evening. "I don't wish it upon anyone. It's different for every single person and nobody can tell you, 'Oh, it will get better in time' – it doesn't.

"I think Billy Bob Thornton put it best, 'You will always be 50% happy and 50% sad.' I'll never be the person I was before I lost him. I'm completely different now and that's okay. I'm learning the new version of me, but living without your hero, your best friend, your reason, it's difficult, it really is. I don't pretend that it's something I'll ever get over."

'My son is my reason now'

However, she credits her three-year-old son Sidney - who she shares with ex-fiancé Sid Wilson - with being her "happiness".

"My son is my reason now," she said. "My happiness will always be my baby. He brings so much joy to my life. Being his mother is the greatest gift this world has ever given me. I understand love in a whole new way now and how lucky I was and am to have loved someone so much that it destroyed me.

"I will spend the rest of my life making sure I continue his legacy the way I know he wanted it to continue. I will forever be grateful to the people of Birmingham for the outpouring of love and support and people all over the world that wrote to us and shared their stories; it really helped get us through.

"As a family we've learned that all we have at the end of the day is each other and there's nothing more important."

Ozzy's death and Kelly's therapy

Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025 aged 76, following a heart attack. The Prince of Darkness' official cause of death was later listed as an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction.

Kelly has undergone therapy to help with her grief, previously telling Hello Magazine that it is a "slow process" and that she's "not going to be fixed in a day". "This is a lifetime of work I've got to do and continue to do for the rest of my life."
