Princess Catherine will not let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's actions distract her from her royal work, a royal expert has said. The Princess of Wales has not publicly commented on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's return to Britain.
Sussexes Return to UK
In August, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are not working royals, relocated back to Britain. This marked their first time living in the country since they quit royal duty in 2020. Despite no longer being working royals, the couple have continued to act like them, as shown last Thursday when they stepped out in Nottingham for charitable visits as private citizens.
Although the visits and charity work have not been looked down upon, as it is a great gesture, the royal-style public walkabouts have been noticed by royal fans. This has led many to believe that Harry and Meghan are almost setting up a rival court to compete with the royals.
Palace Reaction and Expert View
This has reportedly not gone down well with the Palace and is likely to have annoyed Prince William and Princess Catherine, who have not been on talking terms with Harry and Meghan for years. However, one royal expert has said Catherine will not let them bother her.
Instead, Princess Catherine is reportedly encouraging her husband to not be bugged by his younger brother's actions and focus on his own work. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond made this claim while speaking to OK! Magazine.
Bond said: "I'm sure she (Catherine) will be annoyed if her work is overshadowed by something Harry and Meghan are doing, but she won't let it distract her. She will be the voice of reason, and I think she will encourage William to face forward, get on with his job and not be bugged by their activities.
"As she has said, cancer gives you a new perspective, and she probably feels life is too short for grudges. It may look like a rival court, but it seems the Sussexes are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future."
No Contact Between Brothers
Prince William and Catherine have not made any public comment about Harry and Meghan's UK return. They have also not seen the couple and reportedly have no plans to do so.
This comes after reports that William and Harry, despite once being close, have not been on talking terms for years. It is believed this has been the case since Harry published his memoir Spare in 2023, which was critical of both royal life and William.
While Harry had criticised the royals before, in the 2022 Netflix docuseries and in the 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the book was believed to have been the final straw for William. Even when the brothers have been at the same events since, they have not spoken.
It has also been claimed in recent months that Harry no longer has a way to contact William as he doesn't have his recent phone number. Writing in Celebrity Intelligence earlier this year, Dan Wakeford said: "Harry doesn't have his brother's phone number.
"At this stage, sources close to the Duke of Sussex confirm, even if he did, William wouldn't pick up. The man who was once one half of the most famous sibling act in the world is waiting for a call that may never come, and the silence has now stretched to nearly three years."
