Princess Kate Surprises Crowd with Wimbledon Appearance Amid Cancer Recovery

The Princess of Wales made an unexpected appearance at the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles final on Saturday, drawing applause as she arrived at Centre Court. Her visit came amid her ongoing recovery from cancer, with Kensington Palace having declined to confirm her attendance beforehand.

Kate, 43, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, has been slowly returning to public duties after stepping back this year following her cancer diagnosis. She has described her recovery as “a roller coaster” and stressed that she is adjusting to “a new normal”.

The Princess cancelled her appearance at Royal Ascot on the morning of the event, making her Wimbledon visit all the more surprising to fans. She watched the match between Amanda Anisimova and Iga Świątek from the royal box, joined by Billie Jean King and Lady Helen Taylor.

Her choice of outfit drew attention on social media: a white button-down dress by Self Portrait, paired with an Anya Hindmarch tote bag and Gianvito Rossi suede heels. The tennis-appropriate look was widely praised.

Given her role as patron, it is anticipated that the Princess of Wales will also attend Sunday’s Gentlemen’s final, where Jannik Sinner will face Carlos Alcaraz, and present the trophy to the winner.
