Ricky Gervais was left red-faced on This Morning when Josie Gibson probed him about his marital status. The 65-year-old appeared on the ITV show on Friday, August 7, to discuss his new Netflix series, Alley Cats, with presenters Paddy McGuinness and Josie Gibson.
After briefly talking about the animated show, Josie turned the conversation to Ricky's personal life. Ricky had been discussing his character Gus, a feline who dislikes people, and admitted he prefers staying indoors. He said: "It's my favourite thing! It's couch, me, girlfriend, cat, wine, Netflix." He added: "Honestly, just to get up and go on tour, I've already been paid so I've got to do it."
Josie's Direct Question
Josie then asked: "Have you not married Jane then. Is she still your girlfriend?" Ricky awkwardly replied: "Yeah. Yeah - we do everything. We are married, really. But just not in the eyes of God." Josie responded: "Right, okay!"
Ricky has been with his long-term partner, Jane Fallon, since 1982, when they met while studying at University College London. The couple have been together for over four decades and have built successful careers. Ricky is known for The Office, while Jane is a bestselling novelist.
No Plans to Marry
Reflecting on their early years, Ricky has spoken about the modest flat they shared in King's Cross, London, which was all they could afford. Despite their humble beginnings, they have remained together as their careers flourished.
Speaking to The Daily Mail in February 2018, Jane said: "We're not married because neither of [us] are fussed. I think if one of us really cared then we would probably do it but it's not really been anything that either of us have ever really needed."
