Strictly Come Dancing contestant John Nellis has responded to Craig Revel Horwood's criticism of his Cha-Cha performance, calling the judge's remarks a "backhanded compliment."
During Saturday's (October 10) live show, the social media star performed the Cha-Cha to Justin Timberlake's Rock Your Body with professional partner Katya Jones. Craig was highly critical of the technical aspects, stating that John "lacked a spring in his step" and labelling the performance "too laidback" and "cool."
John's Response on It Takes Two
Appearing on Tuesday's (October 13) It Takes Two, the 33-year-old issued a brutal reply to host Ellie Taylor, saying: "I don't know if Craig missed it, but the whole point of that was being cool."
John shrugged and added: "It's Justin Timberlake, late 2000s. I actually took it as a backhanded compliment. I was meant to be cool, truthfully, so it is what it is."
Reflecting on the Routine
Reflecting on the routine, he pointed out: "I also lifted Katya off the seat and into my lap. If that's dull, then … I don't know, I'll try and be more exciting and a bit less cool."
Craig's harsh comments also led head judge Shirley Ballas to brand him a "fun sponge." Despite this, the panellist's remarks were reflected in his scores, as he gave the duo, who received a total of 20 points, just four.
