Iwan Carrington, best known as the cleaning expert on BBC's Sort Your Life Out, has become a familiar face on television. Before joining the show in 2021 alongside Stacey Solomon, organiser Dilly Carter and carpenter Robert Bent, he appeared on the Channel 4 daytime programme Steph's Packed Lunch, hosted by Steph McGovern.
Steph's Packed Lunch Axed
Iwan made appearances on Steph's Packed Lunch as the show's "bargain hunter," sharing deals with viewers. He previously praised McGovern, saying: "She [Steph McGovern] is the most professional person, and she just creates an amazing atmosphere in the studio. She's a powerhouse."
The show was axed in 2023 after three years. The broadcaster said it had made the difficult decision to cancel due to changing audience viewing habits. A statement read: "With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy and we have decided not to recommission Steph's Packed Lunch when its existing production contract ends in December 2023."
Living on Cardboard in First Home
In 2009, Iwan bought his first home in South-West London. Speaking to Metro in 2022, he revealed he renovated the property on a tight budget, which meant sleeping on cardboard on the floor for the first couple of months. He said: "Cash was tight so doing it up was on a total budget. One of the first things I did was rip up the old carpet, and for the first couple of months I lived on cardboard on the floor."
He added: "I have fond memories of eating pizza on camping chairs on top of a makeshift cardboard carpet after moving in."
Other Ventures and Personal Life
Beyond television, Iwan has a strong online presence with 132k YouTube subscribers and 410k followers on Instagram. He started his YouTube channel in 2019, explaining to Ten Eighty Magazine: "During some house renovations, I started watching DIY tutorials. Many of them were US-based, so some of the materials weren't available in the UK. So I thought I'd have a go at doing my own!" Earlier this year, he released his first book, Clean in 15: Create a Clean & Happy Home in Minutes.
Iwan keeps his private life low-key. He previously mentioned a "partner" but it is not known if they are still together. In a 2018 YouTube video, he said he could see himself moving to Germany as that is "where my partner is from." He is a proud "cat dad" to his two cats, Pumpkin and Mittens. In July, he shared a post on their 'Gotcha Day', writing: "Four years ago today, my life changed forever. Happy Gotcha Day, Pumpkin & Mittens. Never a dull moment with this pair, the last photo was taken today."
