The Invictus Games are reportedly struggling with funding, with royal commentator Kinsey Schofield attributing the difficulties to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's antics over the past six years.
Funding concerns and royal attendance
On her show Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, Schofield interviewed broadcaster Rupert Bell about next year's event in Birmingham. Citing a Daily Mail report claiming Harry wants his father King Charles to attend, she read that organisers are likely to invite the King to the opening or closing ceremony, where he could meet competitors. A source said, 'Next year is a big deal for Harry. He is determined that the Birmingham games will be the best ever. It would mean the world to him to have his father there.'
Schofield noted similarities between the Invictus Games and Sentebale, stating both are struggling to fundraise and find donors because of the couple's participation in certain antics. She questioned whether King Charles, as head of the British Armed Forces, would be judged unfairly if he did not attend.
Bell's perspective
Bell responded that it would be hugely disappointing for competitors if the King did not attend, emphasising that the games are about service personnel who have overcome adversity. He said the 'soap opera' should be moved aside, but acknowledged it will inevitably be the story, leading to speculation over the King's attendance and analysis of body language between him and Harry.
