Former Holby City star Chizzy Akudolu has announced the heartbreaking news that her father, Raphael Nwose Akudolu, has died. The actress, known for her role as Mo Effanga and her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, shared the news in an emotional Instagram post, featuring a carousel of family photos.

Father's passing

Revealing that he passed away on July 27 after spending two weeks in hospital, Chizzy paid tribute to her 'wonderful Father'. She wrote: 'On July 27th, 2026, after 2 weeks in hospital, my wonderful Father passed. I am heartbroken but grateful that his pain is now over.'

Reflecting on his character, she described him as 'the most unintentionally funny man' and added that 'no one had a bad word to say about him'. She spoke openly about the pain of losing a parent, saying it feels like losing a part of yourself.

Legacy and thanks

Despite her heartbreak, she said his legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren. Chizzy also thanked the staff at the Margaret Centre at Whipps Cross Hospital for their care, before ending her tribute with: 'Raphael Nwose Akudolu, I love you. Thank you for being my Daddy.'

Career highlights

Chizzy is best known for playing consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Mo Effanga in Holby City, a role she took on in 2012 and remained in until 2017. In 2017, she also competed in the fifteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with Pasha Kovalev, becoming a fan favourite for her infectious personality before being the first celebrity to leave.
