Prince Harry's Awkward Christmas Tree Shopping Moment in California
Harry's awkward moment while Christmas shopping

As the festive season of 2020 approached, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were embarking on their first Christmas in California after stepping back from their royal duties.

The Festive Shopping Trip

In a bid to establish new holiday traditions with their young children, Archie and Lilibet, the couple was spotted shopping for a Christmas tree in Santa Barbara. An arrangement had been made for the couple to enter the tree lot while it was empty, ensuring a degree of privacy. However, one family remained inside, leading to an unexpected and slightly awkward interaction.

The Awkward Encounter

According to shop salesman James Almaguer, who witnessed the event, an excited young boy from the family ran through the trees towards Prince Harry. Not recognising the Duke, the child looked up at him and asked if he worked there, mistaking Harry for a member of staff. James Almaguer later described the Duke as a "chill lad" and Meghan as "very kind" in a post on social media platform X.

He elaborated on the incident, writing: "There was one family in there and their stoked little son ran through trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here not knowing who that is." He concluded that the couple were pleasant and appreciative customers, glad they liked the trees selected for them.

Meghan's New Christmas Venture

This year, Meghan Markle is celebrating the holiday season in a unique way by launching her own Netflix holiday programme. The show, titled "With Love, Meghan," is scheduled to premiere on December 3. In the trailer, the Duchess speaks about "embracing traditions" and "connecting with the people we love."

She shares glimpses into her Christmas preparations, stating: "I love the holiday season. It’s about finding time to connect with the people we love. Embracing traditions and making new ones." The programme will feature guests including tennis champion Naomi Osaka and celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, showcasing Meghan's favourite holiday traditions and recipes.
