Prince Harry was seen in the stands watching a rugby game with a beer on Friday, and he had reportedly received a mixed reception from the crowd. Harry, who is known to be a big rugby fan, was shown on the big screen watching Leicester Tigers as they faced Gloucester at Welford Road.
As Harry was shown on the big screen taking his seat with a beer in hand, some boos were also heard. But now, his fans are claiming the boos were not directed at the prince.
Fans claim boos were for the referee
The so-called Sussex squad have claimed online that the boos were directed at the referee, not the prince. Online supporters of the Sussexes insisted the booing came from Gloucester fans who were unhappy at referee Karl Dickson for awarding the home side a scrum.
One person wrote: “That's a lie,” they added “They were booing [the] referee's decision and then the camera cut to Harry.” According to the Daily Mail, another penned: “They were booing the referee's decision. Not Harry.”
Prince's return to the UK
The prince returned to the UK at the end of August along with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. His attendance at the game was one of the multiple solo trips he has undertaken since arriving back in Britain.
Harry sat in the stands with his cousin George McCorquodale, each drinking a pint of beer as they watched the match. The pair were also seen with Andrea Pinchen, the Tigers' chief executive.
Meanwhile, a friend of the duke reportedly told the MoS: “It's been presented as the crowd booing him and that's what the press have decided. Doesn't matter that they were actually booing the ref's call to award the scrum to Leicester following an alleged knock-on from Gloucester.”
Couple's upcoming appearance
The prince and Meghan Markle left their royal duties in 2020 before heading for a life in the USA. In a shock turn of events, the couple are now living in the Cotswolds and plan to stay in Britain for an “extended” time.
The pair are reportedly making their first appearance as a couple since they have been back in the UK on Thursday. Their visit will take place in Nottingham, which is where they carried out their first appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017.
