Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are relocating to the UK with their children within days, but the duration of their stay remains undecided. The couple and their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are set to move before the end of August.
Residence and Schooling Arrangements
Reports indicate the couple have already secured a private non-royal residence, the location of which has been kept confidential. Their children have been enrolled in British schools and will start in September.
Despite these steps, the couple reportedly do not view the move as permanent.
Extended Stay, Not Forever Home
According to the BBC, Meghan and Harry consider Britain their home “for now” and will likely assess how the move progresses. A source told The Times that the couple are not committing to a permanent relocation because they value their freedom to move around.
The source said: “It’ll be an extended period of time — it could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more — I don’t think even they know yet.”
The source added: “They might suddenly go: ‘Why don’t we try Canada for a while? Why don’t we try Australia?’ It’s one of the great things about being private individuals [that they can live where they choose].”
Previous Residence and Future Plans
The couple last lived in the UK in 2020, when they stepped down from royal duties. Since then, they have resided in a mansion in Montecito, California, which they will retain despite the move. They are also reportedly keeping their Portugal holiday home, which they visited this summer.
The reason for the move has not been disclosed, though rumours suggest Meghan may have been offered an acting role in Britain. The Daily Express has contacted Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson for comment.
