Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been urged to apologise if they want to win back support in the UK. The Sussexes are returning to the UK for an "extended period" and will reside in a private, non-royal residence outside of London.
Six years after stepping down
Their return comes six years after they stepped down from their roles as senior working royals and relocated to Montecito, Canada. During that time, the couple made several bombshell moves, from Meghan, 45, revealing troubling conversations about her son Archie's skin colour during her interview with Oprah Winfrey to Harry, 41, exposing deeply personal details about his relationship with his brother Prince William in his 2023 memoir, Spare.
To regain the Royal Family's trust and win back support in the UK, royal author Robert Jobson believes the Sussexes must apologise, first to King Charles and then to Prince William and Princess Catherine.
Calls for contrition
TalkTV presenter Jeremy Kyle said: "For any of this to work, you believe there should be contrition, and they should start by saying sorry."
Robert agreed: "Without a doubt, I think there's apologies owed both to the King, to the Wales family, William in particular, and Catherine, but also to the nation, for some of the things that have been said about our country, I think, are simply despicable."
Criticism of the return
Earlier in the interview, Robert claimed that the speculation surrounding Harry and Meghan's return had become a "complete farce", arguing that their presence in the UK will overshadow the work of the rest of the Royal Family as he accused them of using "classic Sussex PR".
He remarked: "The leaking, the counter briefing, they're talking about whether she's in The Gentleman or not. The whole thing is becoming a complete and utter farce. And that's what we're going to get. If they're here for six months, it'll be every single story about them."
Robert added: "All of that's going to go away. No one's going to even watch it. This is classic Sussex PR. Divide and rule by mixing up the briefings, then basically putting these stories out so it looks like she's a victim of a backlash."
