Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) has been revealed as the attacker who left Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) for dead in Emmerdale. Everyone in the village, including Billy's fiancee Dawn, believed Joe Tate was responsible, but the truth is now out.
Kev's Confession and Regret
Chris Coghill, who plays Kev, explained: "Billy is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kev thinks I've just given him a little 'love tap' just to stop him in his tracks but its a bit more serious than than that…"
Kev had followed his mate Steve (Jason Done) to the depot, where Steve was heading for one last job. Kev didn't intend to hurt Billy so severely, and Chris noted: "Kev's trying not to hurt people anymore, and it is on his conscience."
When Billy recovers and leaves the hospital, Kev becomes convinced Billy knows the truth. Chris said: "It's something that Billy says that makes Kev think that he already knows and he apologises to him and sort of says look you know, you get it, you understand it. You've been in prison, these things happen, I'll make it up to you." He joked: "What's a love tap between friends?"
Caleb's Scheme
Caleb Milligan, who runs the depot, sees the attack on CCTV and decides to erase the footage to frame his nephew Joe. Will Ash, who plays Caleb, said: "I've seen the CCTV, and then seen that it's him [Kev] that's done it but I wipe the CCTV so that I can point the finger at Joe."
However, Caleb's wife Ruby gets involved and uses the footage to blackmail Kev. Will added: "I think they don't know how to handle him [Kev], like most people in the village. He's such a loose cannon you just don't know what you're going to get from him. I think certainly Ruby thinks she could probably outmaneuver him, and she thinks she has done that."
