Coronation Street fans are growing increasingly concerned for Betsy Swain's future, believing that recent episodes have foreshadowed a potential death for the character. The ITV soap aired scenes in which Betsy discussed her plans to leave Weatherfield, but viewers suspect something more sinister is in store.
Betsy's Journey on the Cobbles
Betsy, played by Sydney Martin, first appeared on the cobbles in 2024 as a friend of Sabrina Adetiba. Her true identity as DS Lisa Connor-Swain's daughter was later revealed. Since then, she has been at the centre of several major storylines over the past two years, with more dramatic scenes on the horizon. Notably, she recently stumbled upon a neighbour's body on her mother and Carla Connor's wedding day. She is also set to feature in an upcoming plot involving Dylan Wilson.
Actors Sydney Martin and Liam McCheyne, who portray Betsy and Dylan, confirmed their involvement in a 'coming of age' storyline, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Recent Episode Sparks Concern
In Monday's (June 15) episode, Betsy, Dylan, and Brody Michaelis headed to the Rovers Return. Sean Tully turned them away, knowing Brody was underage. Undeterred, the teenagers went to the precinct after buying cans. When three threatening youths approached and demanded their drinks, Betsy stood her ground. The boys brought up Mason Radcliffe, Betsy's ex-boyfriend who died in a knife crime last year. Dylan intervened, telling the group to leave Betsy alone. Brody also stood up to them, but the situation escalated, and the trio fled as the lads gave chase.
In Tuesday's (June 16) episode, an emotional Betsy spoke to Dylan, deeply affected by the reminder of Mason's death. She revealed to her best friend Lauren Bolton that she had secured a place at a fashion college in London. She then broke the news to Dylan, who suggested she inform her mother Lisa and stepmother Carla Connor-Swain. In Friday's (June 19) episode, Carla was thrilled for Betsy, but Lisa appeared hesitant.
Fans Spot Foreshadowing
Despite Lisa's concerns about Betsy leaving, fans believe there is a more troubling possibility. One viewer on social media noted: "Betsy saying 'I love you both, to death' made me feel two very different ways??? on one hand it was so cute but on the other hand, my brain went straight to them foreshadowing something DRASTIC." Another replied: "I did the exact same thing...feels slightly too optimistic about the future." A third commented: "Betsy saying 'I love you both too death' I smell another attempted murder this Christmas #swarla." A fourth added: "'I love you both to death' Na if we didn't get life support Lisa in Corriedale then I forbid you to go down this route with Betsy Corrie #Swarla."
Coronation Street airs on ITV and is available to stream on ITVX.
