Jeremy Clarkson has the opportunity to do something hilarious by adding Meghan Markle to the list of banned celebrities at his Cotswolds pub, The Farmer's Dog. The move comes after Meghan reportedly snubbed the establishment for another venue in Burford.
Meghan's Pub Snub
Meghan, who now lives near Clarkson in the Cotswolds with Prince Harry, chose a different Burford pub for a meeting with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. The choice was seen as a deliberate snub, given Clarkson's history of public animosity toward the duchess.
Clarkson once wrote in a Sun column, for which he later apologised, that he was “dreaming of the day” Meghan would be “made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her”. The reference was to a Game of Thrones scene.
Banned List and Feud Potential
The pub already bans several figures, including former prime minister Sir Keir Starmer, Clarkson's ex-co-stars James May and Richard Hammond, and a customer named Maddy Hornby. No Labour MPs are welcome either.
Adding Meghan to the list would place her in an exclusive group, a status she reportedly enjoys. However, the humour would likely be lost on the duchess, who may have intended her choice of venue as a statement.
Meghan and Harry have faced criticism since returning to the UK, including demands for taxpayer-funded security and pulling their children out of prep school days into the term due to a hectic journey. A playful ban could potentially ease tensions between Clarkson and Meghan, perhaps even leading to a collaboration between Hawksmoor and As Ever.
