Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the UK has drawn a blunt response from Irish actress Sharon Horgan, who was asked about the couple while on the red carpet for the premiere of her new HBO series Youth.
On Friday, September 19, Horgan, who created the romantic comedy series and stars as Alex, a divorcee caring for her teenage son and ageing parents while navigating the dating scene, was asked whether, as an Irish person, she was bothered by Harry, 42, and Meghan, 45, moving back to the UK.
"No, I couldn't give a f**k," she replied with a laugh.
Mixed reception since return
The Sussexes have faced a mixed reception in the UK since returning six years after stepping down as working royals and relocating to Montecito.
The return comes as Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has made headlines with a series of claims about King Charles in his new book, Swan Song: Diary, My Sister, set for release next week. This includes the claim that the King reportedly said "we'll forget her soon enough" shortly after Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris at the age of 36 in 1997.
Buckingham Palace responds
Buckingham Palace immediately hit back, saying that the King is mindful that "grief can cloud reason."
Royal biographer Tom Bower has now claimed that Harry was aware of Earl Spencer's book before its publication.
"The return of Harry and Meghan is heading towards a crisis. They haven't declared why they are here. They haven't declared how long they'll stay," he told Nigel Farage on GB News.
"Their objective is not to ingratiate themselves with the royal family but to cause trouble. There is no doubt that Harry knew Spencer was going to release this book."
When asked whether Harry would really want to damage his father, Bower suggested that Harry was "desperate to return to the UK," but on the Sussexes' terms.
"Their terms are non-negotiable," he added.
