Film crews have taken over Liverpool as production of the new Beatles biopics continues. The four films will star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, with Sam Mendes directing. They are scheduled for release in April 2028.
Star-studded cast and filming locations
Other big names joining the cast include Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey, Ringo's first wife. The four stars were originally spotted at Maray on Bold Street in Liverpool city centre in September 2025, where Paul Mescal told the ECHO he'd "been here a few times before" and was "having the best time".
The cast was spotted at Liverpool Town Hall on Sunday, September 20, with footage expected to recreate The Beatles' return to Liverpool in July 1964, when they were welcomed home by hundreds of thousands of fans. Last week, Paul Mescal was seen cycling through a Liverpool street in character as Sir Paul, filming a scene in Mossley Hill on Thursday, September 17.
Filming at iconic Beatles spots
Camera crews have also been spotted at Ye Cracke on Rice Street, a pub renowned as one of John Lennon's favourite Liverpool watering holes. According to Beatlesource, Lennon and fellow art-school friend Stuart Sutcliffe were regulars there. The pub posted on Instagram that it would remain closed until the afternoon on Friday, September 25 for the filming.
The ECHO photography team have captured the filming as it continues across Liverpool, including scenes at the Plaza Community Cinema in Crosby, Rodney Street, and John Lennon's childhood home. Extras have been seen on set in Walton, with vintage cars and a bus travelling along Crosby Road North for the production.
