Rock icon Chrissie Hynde has issued a desperate plea for help after her precious dog went missing in London. The Pretenders star, 74, has been searching for her Jack Russell, Nico, who was last seen in the Colindale area two weeks ago.
Heartbreaking Plea on Instagram
In one of her pleas for five-year-old Nico, Chrissie told her Instagram followers on Wednesday: 'I’ve lost my dog, Nico. She is very dear to me and I am absolutely heartbroken. She was last seen in Silkstream park in Colindale London.'
Chrissie begged anyone who spots Nico not to chase after her as she 'might be very nervous', having been separated from her owner and 'on the run' for weeks.
Follow-Up Message and Fears
In a follow-up message on Thursday, the musician told her concerned fans: 'Please, please, please if anyone has seen her at all, can you let me know? Last seen: Silkstream Park in Colindale, London. NW7/NW9. Can anyone in Great Britain tell me of the whereabouts of my little dog Nico?'
Exploring the various possibilities as well as her deepest fears, Chrissie continued: 'I don’t know if someone has fallen in love with her and is harbouring her in their home? Or maybe someone has grabbed her and using her for some malicious purpose…? Or maybe she’s been knocked over by a car and is lying in a bush, dying.'
Support from Fans and Peta
Chrissie’s posts didn’t fall on deaf ears as her thousands of followers sent supportive messages to the star, while Peta promised to do their part and help. The animal protection organisation replied: 'We’re devastated to hear this. Putting up posters locally, offering a reward, and reaching out to all nearby shelters and rescue groups can make the difference. Never give up; miracles happen. Hoping hard that sweet Nico is home safe soon.'
Chrissie's Love for London
Although born in the US, Chrissie moved to London in the 70s, becoming a founding member of the rock band The Pretenders. Best known for songs like Don’t Get Me Wrong, Talk of the Town and Brass In Pocket, the group have enjoyed number one singles and albums, Grammy nominations and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In an interview with The Telegraph in May this year, she spoke of her move across the pond and how she’s grown fond of the Big Smoke. 'I’ve always loved London and I’ve moved around a lot, like every few months,' she said. 'What do I like about London? Well, that would be a whole book. The parks, the green space, the trees. Everywhere in London is near a park and nature, that’s the beauty of it.'
Chrissie has lived between west and north London over the past five decades, but believes she’s found her forever home in her current space where she’s resided for three years. 'I’ll probably stay here now,' she admitted. 'I can walk across the street to the shop, I’m a two-minute walk from the Tube and I’ve got everything right at my fingertips. I can walk from here to Marble Arch, to the West End. Paddington Rec, that’s also local to me. I like where I am now. I’m not a very nostalgic person; I always like where I am.'
Chrissie isn’t the only celebrity heartbroken over their pet this week, as Greg James and his wife, Bella Mackie, are mourning the death of their pooch Barney.
