The Prince and Princess of Wales, known in Scotland as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, received a rapturous welcome when they took their seats in the 5,000-seater Hydro stadium for the Commonwealth Games netball on Saturday afternoon. Joining them were their three children, Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, seven, much to the delight of royal fans.
The royal family are spending the penultimate day of the Glasgow 2026 Games watching athletes compete in a range of sports.
Women's Netball Semi-Final
The couple's afternoon kicked off with the second semi-final of the Women's Netball, pitting world number one Australia against Jamaica, who claimed silver at the Birmingham 2022 Games. The match is set to deliver a tightly contested 60 minutes of action inside Glasgow's Hydro.
Team Wales and SportsAid
Later on Saturday, William and Catherine are scheduled to spend time with Team Wales athletes and their families.
Before the Games, the Prince of Wales chatted with five Team Wales competitors during a visit to the London Welsh School in Hanwell, west London. Among them were lawn and indoor bowler Ross Owen, blind para bowler Julie Thomas with her guide John Wilson, and weightlifters Madaline Connelly and Catrin Haf Jones.
The couple will also meet athletes whose careers have been supported by SportsAid, a charity Catherine has supported as patron since 2013, as well as emerging talent from the Team England Futures project.
SportsAid alumni with early promise include Sir Chris Hoy, Ellie Simmonds, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Tom Daley.
Games Opening and Royal Attendances
The Commonwealth Games, affectionately dubbed 'the friendly games,' began on July 23 with an opening ceremony that saw the King and Queen emerge from a Doctor Who Tardis. Throughout the nine days of competition so far, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal have attended several sessions.
William and Catherine last visited the Games when Glasgow hosted them in 2014, accompanied by the prince's younger brother, Prince Harry.
