Buckingham Palace has announced it will investigate allegations that the Duchess of Sussex bullied royal staff, expressing deep concern over the claims. The investigation follows a report in The Times newspaper detailing a bullying complaint made against Meghan in October 2018, during her time as a working royal.
According to The Times, a leaked email from a staff member alleges that Meghan drove two personal assistants out of the household and undermined the confidence of a third. The palace stated it does not tolerate bullying or harassment and will invite former staff involved to participate in the inquiry to see if lessons can be learned.
Meghan's spokesman responded by saying the duchess is 'saddened by this latest attack on her character', noting that she has herself been a target of bullying and is committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma. The spokesman added that Meghan is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world.
The allegations come just days before Meghan and Prince Harry's highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey, scheduled to air in the US on Sunday and in the UK on Monday. The couple, who stepped back as senior royals in March 2020 and now live in California, have not commented further on the matter.
