New details about Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's 2022 wedding have emerged, with Sir David Beckham's speech drawing criticism for being 'odd' and centering on his son, while making no reference to Nicola.
Speech Details
A wedding guest told the Daily Mail that David and Victoria Beckham had not been on speaking terms with Brooklyn for months before the wedding. David's speech was described as 'protracted' and focused on his relationship with the groom.
'The speech went on, and on,' the source said. 'It was one of the oddest bits of the day. It was as if David was getting married to Brooklyn.' He concluded with: 'The most important thing is to make each other happy. And treat your Mrs like gold.'
Family Tensions
Nicola's father, Nelson, delivered a brief speech centered on Ukraine, following Russia's invasion. The atmosphere was so peculiar that one guest described the wedding brunch the next morning as though 'someone had died.'
The wedding has gained a notorious reputation due to reports of an 'inappropriate' dance between Brooklyn and Victoria, a wedding attire debacle, and an alleged power struggle between Victoria and Nicola.
Brooklyn's Statement
Brooklyn has since severed ties with his parents, releasing a January social media statement: 'I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.'
'I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.'
'Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they'll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out. My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped.'
Reactions and Aftermath
DJ Fat Tony, who performed at the wedding, told the Mail: 'Before judging, people should remember that two parents have lost their firstborn son and a son has lost his parents. All families have dramas, but they just happen to be the Beckhams.'
Brooklyn and Nicola renewed their vows in August 2025, with none of Brooklyn's family reportedly in attendance. He has since blocked his family on social media and was absent from events including David's Knighthood, his 50th birthday, Victoria's Netflix premiere, and World Cup fixtures in the USA.
