A journalist has claimed that Prince Andrew showed 'discomfort' in a 1993 photograph with his then-wife Sarah Ferguson, taken less than a year after her affair with US businessman John Bryan became public. The image, captured at a school sports day, shows the couple seated together with their daughter Princess Eugenie.
Speaking on the Daily Mail's 'Reading the Royals' video series, Richard Eden analysed the photo, noting Andrew's 'blank expression' behind dark sunglasses and his crossed legs. Eden said: 'The discomfort in Andrew's face is apparent for all to see.' He also described Ferguson's expression as showing a 'kind of vacant disconnect', as if she believed ignoring the scandal would make everything fine.
Andrew and Sarah separated in 1992, before the affair was revealed, and later divorced in 1996. The analysis comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Andrew's links to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which he has consistently denied.
Separately, Andrew has moved from Royal Lodge in Windsor to Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate while his permanent residence, Marsh Farm, undergoes refurbishments. Local residents have expressed displeasure, with one unnamed woman telling The Times: 'I think if he has to come and live here, it should be somewhere that's quite secluded.' Another visitor remarked: 'Really, he's going back to luxury, isn't he? He's being waited on hand and foot.'
