Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly unlikely to meet his new granddaughter, Princess Eugenie's daughter, according to a royal author. The disgraced former Duke of York has not seen the baby in person since her birth last week.
Birth announcement
Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank announced the birth of their daughter on Monday, August 3, 2026, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby weighed 6lb 9oz at birth, and both mother and child were said to be doing well.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces."
Rare overseas birth
It is rare for a member of the Royal Family to be born overseas, but Eugenie and Jack have a home and other connections in Portugal. The couple are said to be taking their time to decide on a name for their daughter.
Andrew's absence
While reports suggest Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson, travelled to Portugal to see her daughter and granddaughter, the same cannot be said for Andrew. Royal author Andrew Lownie told the Daily Mail: "It is unlikely Andrew will see his new grandchild except through FaceTime."
Lownie also claimed that Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, along with their husbands, Jack Brooksbank and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, "don't want their reputations and earnings tainted by association with Andrew and Sarah and are pushing for their daughters to distance themselves from their parents."
Scandal fallout
The former Duke and Duchess of York have faced intense scrutiny following the release of documents related to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing, while Sarah has publicly condemned Epstein.
Andrew and Sarah have lost their titles and honours and were forced to vacate Royal Lodge earlier this year. Andrew has been living in exile in Norfolk, where he relocated. His daughters are said to have been struggling in the aftermath of the scandal.
