In an emotionally charged episode of BBC's hit reality show The Traitors, contestant Jade Scott moved fellow players to tears by revealing a devastating personal tragedy from her past.
A Heartbreaking Revelation at the Dinner Party
During a dinner party hosted by presenter Claudia Winkleman, the 25-year-old PhD student from the West Midlands shared her story with the remaining eight contestants. Jade explained that her parents divorced when she was seven, after which her mother moved back to Hong Kong and had another child.
In 2018, her world shattered when both her mother and her half-sibling were found dead. The other players gasped in shock as Jade wept, telling them the day had been "an emotional one" and that she had to completely rebuild her life from that point onward.
"I have had to really rebuild myself from that point onwards," Jade said. "So I’m really proud of myself for being here and getting this far." She added that if she won the prize money, she would use it to buy a home, a place she could finally call her own.
The Aftermath and Impact on the Game
In a later interview, Jade elaborated on the profound impact of her loss. "In 2018 I lost my Mum. I was always very close with her so it was a shock to the system," she told the camera. She admitted the tragedy made her guarded, explaining why she might come across as standoffish initially.
The revelation immediately altered the dynamics within the group. Fellow contestant Stephen Libby praised her bravery, while Matty Hyndman, who had voted to banish her earlier, apologised for making her cry. Faithful player Rachel Duffy said knowing what people had "come through" would make future decisions in the turret much harder.
High Tensions and a Shocking Exit
Jade's emotional confession followed a tense round table where she broke down over the constant suspicion directed at her. She told contestant Matt, who wrongly believed she was a Traitor, that she was "frankly so sick" of having to defend herself.
The episode also saw the banishment of Ellie Buckley, who grew emotional after Rachel Duffy singled her out for being suspiciously close. Ellie revealed she was seeking friendship after her ally, Jessie Stride, was murdered the previous night. Ellie left the game on a high note, however, by astonishing everyone with the revelation that she and fellow contestant Ross Garshong had entered the castle as a couple.
Traitor Stephen Libby, whom Jessie had accused just before her murder, feared he would be a target but survived the round table without a single vote. He admitted staying in the game would be "by the skin of my teeth".
With Ellie's departure, the eight remaining players were treated to a murder-free night and Claudia Winkleman's dinner party, a respite after one of the most dramatic days in the show's history.
