Third Celebrity Traitor revealed, fans 'gutted' for James Acaster

The final member of the Traitors trio has been revealed as the second series of Celebrity Traitors gets underway. However, fans have been left feeling heartbroken for the new recruit after being left on a cliffhanger.

Last night (October 2), the ultimate game of deception returned to TV screens with 21 celebrities fighting it out to win up to £100,000 for their chosen charities. After a tense episode, the three Traitors have finally been revealed.

Richard E Grant and Maya Jama selected first

At the Round Table, host Claudia Winkleman selected Richard E Grant and Maya Jama as the first two recruits. They were then given the task of selecting two other players to plead their cases as to why they would make ideal Traitors.

While many fans felt as though the duo made a big mistake, at the end of the episode journalist Amol Rajan and comedian James Acaster were seen to lie in coffins as their fate was decided. Sadly, Amol found his coffin lid closed making him the first murdered celebrity of the season.

James Acaster's reaction

While James was successfully recruited, many fans have been left gutted for the star as he has repeatedly stated that he only wanted to be a Faithful in the series.

Following the announcement, James said: "I can't believe I'm a Traitor. I'm gutted to not be a Faithful anymore. I don't like lying, but if I don't join then they will kill me."

Ahead of going on the show, he shared that he enjoyed the idea of being a detective over making cunning plans up in the tower. He said: "I'd like to be a Faithful. This is the only time I'll be able to play it, and I like being in a position of figuring something out rather than having the information the Traitors have."

Fans share mixed reactions online

Having seen how disappointed James is at the news, many fans have shared their heartache online. One person wrote on Reddit: "Poor James, one of the few that wanted to be a faithful - now a traitor."

With another adding: "James being one of the few who actually wanted to be a faithful but ending up a very early recruited traitor, he really got the worst case scenario."

However, many fans were happy to see the comedian still in the game. One person wrote: "God, I'd have been devastated if James left this early." Another fan also said: "I am so relieved, James is going to self combust by next week but so happy for him." A third also commented: "I'm so happy James is still in! He could be such a good traitor to watch."

A fellow Reddit user also added: "Can't wait to watch James have several breakdowns through this journey as a Traitor." While one fan shared a twist on one of James' iconic TV moments: "Started traitoring. Had a breakdown. Bon appetit!"

Fans can see how James fares as a Traitor as the series continues. Celebrity Traitors airs every Thursday and Friday at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
