BBC One's stratospheric reality hit, The Traitors, is back for a brand new series in 2026, once again hosted by Claudia Winkleman. The show, which has viewers hooked on its blend of psychological sleuthing and dramatic betrayals, returned to screens on Thursday 15 January 2026, just months after the first UK celebrity edition saw comedian Alan Carr claim victory.
The 2026 Contestants: A Mix of Strategy and Secrecy
This year's eclectic cast features a bestselling crime writer, a psychologist, a retired police detective, and more, all vying for the prize fund in a high-stakes game of deception. The contestants have already begun their treacherous journey in the Scottish castle, with several players having been eliminated.
The known Traitors at the start of the game were Rachel, Stephen, Fiona, and Hugo. Rachel, a 42-year-old head of communications from County Down nicknamed 'Monica from Friends' for her competitiveness, prepared by taking online classes from an ex-FBI agent. Stephen, a 32-year-old cyber security consultant from London, believes his linguistics degree and Scottish accent will aid his gameplay.
Among the Faithful are a diverse group with their own tactics. Adam, a 34-year-old builder from Essex, claims expertise in reading body language. Ellie, a 33-year-old psychologist, is using her professional skills covertly. Faraaz, a 22-year-old internal auditor from Middlesbrough, is a superfan aiming to play it cool.
Eliminations and Departures: Who Has Left?
The game of murder and banishment has already taken its toll. Several contestants have been removed from play, either 'murdered' by the Traitors or 'banished' by the group at the Round Table.
The banished contestants so far are Harriet, Amanda, Ross, Judy, Fiona, and Hugo. Harriet, the 52-year-old crime writer from London, was an early departure. Retired police detective Amanda, 57, from Brighton, and sales exec Ross, 37, from London, have also been voted out. Judy, a 60-year-old child liaison officer from Doncaster and secret mother of contestant Roxy, was banished, as was Traitor Fiona, a 62-year-old local government officer from Swansea, and Traitor Hugo, a 51-year-old barrister from Cardiff and London.
The 'murdered' contestants are Reece, Maz, Ben, and Netty. This group includes sweet shop assistant Reece, 27, from Sheffield; civil servant Maz, 59, from Preston; former forces member Ben, 66, from Hampshire; and nursery teacher Netty, 42, from Glasgow.
Motivations and Prize Money Dreams
Each player has entered the game with personal goals for the potential prize money. For some, it's about property: Ellie wants a London flat, Jack a home with a garden gym, and Jade a stable base after years of studying. For others, it's family: Sam wants funds to start a family, Roxy dreams of a family holiday and starting her own, and Matthew aims to buy a Highland cottage and marry his partner.
Several contestants plan to use winnings for charitable causes or meaningful experiences. Harriet pledged donations to breast cancer research, Amanda to a pulmonary hypertension charity, and Hugo to Amnesty International. Faraaz wishes to make a religious pilgrimage, while Ben hopes to finally take his wife on a honeymoon.
As the game continues, the remaining contestants – including the still-hidden Traitors – must navigate a web of lies and alliances. With Claudia Winkleman at the helm, The Traitors 2026 promises more twists, shocking reveals, and intense Round Table confrontations as the players fight to be the last one standing.
