A Strictly Come Dancing professional has spoken about Delta Goodrem's future on the BBC One show after the Australian pop star was forced to pull out of this weekend's performances due to a rib injury.
Delta was taken to A&E last weekend following the injury, and on Monday night's It Takes Two revealed that medical professionals had instructed her to rest and miss this week's performances. The BBC issued a statement confirming Delta would sit out Icons Week and receive a "bye" through to the following week.
BBC statement on Delta's absence
The statement read: "Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing." It expressed that it was "hoped" she and partner Kai Widdrington would return to perform once more.
On Wednesday (October 15), Delta's fellow Strictly participants Lawrence Robb and Jowita discussed the star's situation on the programme. When questioned whether Lawrence had been in contact with her, he responded: "I don't know what she's done. They've not really told us. I've sent her a well-wishes text, and I hope you get better and I hope to see her next week. Yeah, because she's so good. I mean, we had Dani back this year, and of course, last year she got an injury."
Co-stars share their hopes
Ben Shephard observed: "It's not without its tribulations, this show, is it?" Professional dancer Jowita remarked: "Yeah, I mean, it always takes just a second because, you know, they work so hard. We rehearse eight hours a day, nonstop. So, the body is tired, the mind is tired, and sometimes it's just one silly thing, and it can lead to some major issue."
Discussing Delta, she continued: "But I do believe that she will be fine next week. She is a fighter, and we will really miss her on that floor, because I think everyone would like to do the icons, because that's iconic. But I think she'll be back stronger than ever."
Leaderboard record before injury
Delta and her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington had led the leaderboard for the previous two weeks, achieving 30 points for their American Smooth in week two, which was Movie Week. During the series opener, the pair earned an impressive 29 points for their samba, finishing as runners-up to John and Katya.
Strictly Come Dancing airs every weekend on BBC One and iPlayer.
