Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left puzzled during the second live show after noticing the judges were not dressed in Movie Week costumes, a tradition fans say they have followed in previous years.
The BBC One series returned last weekend with a new lineup of celebrities. Tonight's episode (October 3) is the second live show, with presenters Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe joined by judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood.
Movie Week routines and opening number
This week is Movie Week, with the 15 celebrities and their professional partners performing routines set to iconic songs from cinema. The episode opened with a professional dancers' routine featuring a Zootropolis-themed performance to Shakira's Try Everything and Zoo.
Within minutes of the broadcast, audiences became distracted upon realising the judging panel weren't wearing costumes to match the Movie Week theme, something viewers recall them doing previously.
Fan reactions on social media
Taking to X, one viewer expressed their bewilderment: "Don't the judges usually dress up as movie characters for Movie Week?" Another questioned: "Why aren't the judges dressed as movie characters? They usually are on Movie Week."
A third commented: "Sorry, why aren't the judges dressed up?! Total vibe is missing", while a fourth queried: "Don't the judges usually dress up for movie week??" A fifth remarked: "Surprised the Judges haven't dressed up."
A sixth viewer added: "Are the judges not usually done up for movie week? Or it is musicals week?" Another echoed: "wait are the judges not dressing up."
Leaderboard and upcoming elimination
Last weekend's opening live show saw John Nellis and Katya Jones secure top position on the leaderboard with 31 points, while Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington followed closely with 29 points. Melanie Walters, Shaun-Wright Phillips and Sarah Storey occupied the bottom of the rankings, each receiving 15 points, with these scores carried forward into this week's programme.
There was no live elimination last weekend, which will instead occur during tomorrow's episode (October 4). Following the combination of judges' scores and public votes, the bottom two couples will face the series' first dance-off.
The pairing who fails to win over the judges will be compelled to depart the competition, their journey ending prematurely before the remaining celebrities return to perform once more next weekend. Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
