BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent has expressed her desire to appear on Channel 4's Gogglebox, a show nominated for a National Television Award (NTA).
During Tuesday's (August 18) episode, Nugent and co-host Jon Kay discussed the NTA nominations, which were released this week. The BBC Breakfast team received nominations for two heartfelt documentaries, a recognition Jon described as an 'honour'.
Gogglebox Suggestion
After a montage of nominated shows, including The Traitors, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Bridgerton, Nugent said: "I think we should do Gogglebox!"
Jon laughed off the suggestion, admitting he wondered what she might say about their participation in other shows. The pair have not confirmed any plans to appear on the celebrity edition of the programme, which has previously featured presenters like Cat Deeley, Ben Shephard, Lorraine Kelly and Clare Balding.
Naga Munchetty's Exit
The comment comes after Naga Munchetty announced she is stepping down from BBC Breakfast. Munchetty, who has been with the programme since 2009, will move to Radio 5 Live's breakfast show full-time in January. She currently fronts Breakfast three days a week and 5 Live's mid-morning programme for three days, but will take on 5 Live Breakfast for five days a week from January.
Speaking about her departure, Munchetty said: "It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, working alongside an incredibly talented and hard-working group of journalists who are not only outstanding colleagues but also great friends."
She added: "Presenting a flagship programme on 5 Live is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up. It will take a huge amount of work and require 100% of my focus and energy, and I'm really looking forward to throwing myself into the role."
No replacement for Munchetty on the sofa alongside Charlie Stayt has been announced, though fans have expressed interest in seeing Nina Warhurst return to the show.
