BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent has made an unexpected plea to her co-star Jon Kay live on air, expressing her desire to appear on Channel 4's Gogglebox.
During a recent episode of the BBC programme, the two presenters informed viewers that two documentaries from the BBC Breakfast team are up for an NTA, as Jon confirmed they felt 'honoured' by the recognition.
Plea to co-star
They then highlighted the other shows that have received a nomination as a montage appeared on-screen. Viewers saw snippets from The Traitors, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Bridgerton. When it came to an end, Sally expressed her keenness to participate in Gogglebox after seeing a small clip, reports the Mirror.
Turning to Jon, she told him "We should do Gogglebox!", although it's unclear whether her colleague was as eager as he laughed off her remark.
Celebrity edition history
Over the years, fans have seen a plethora of well-known faces star in the Celebrity edition of the Channel 4 show, including Lorraine Kelly, Ben Shephard, Charlene White and Ruth Langsford.
Sally's jest about starring on a competing broadcaster follows the recent announcement that Naga Munchetty is departing her BBC Breakfast position.
Naga Munchetty's departure
After joining the programme in 2009, she's been a staple on the sofa alongside Charlie Stayt. However, she's now leaving to front Radio 5 Live's breakfast programme. Although she's part of the radio show's mid-morning show, from January, Naga will be hosting 5 Live Breakfast for five days a week.
Calling it a 'privilege' to have been part of the BBC Breakfast team for 17 years, Naga praised the 'incredibly talented' and 'hard-working' journalist on the show. Paying tribute to her 'outstanding colleagues', who she also called 'great friends', Naga confessed that presenting the flagship programme was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Recent departures and future
Naga isn't the only person to leave Breakfast recently, as earlier this year, fans bid farewell to weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, who stepped down after 28 years. It remains unclear who will take Naga's place on the sofa beside Charlie Stayt, though viewers are eager to see Nina Warhurst make a comeback to the iconic red sofa.
BBC Breakfast is available to watch on BBC One from 6am.
