River Tyne search for missing man Liam enters fourth day

Divers from the Northumbria Police Marine & Dive Specialist Capabilities Unit have been photographed at Wylam as the search in the River Tyne for a missing man enters its fourth day. Police have said that 22-year-old Liam, who was last seen in the early hours of Saturday, is 'believed to have entered the water'.

Search operation underway

Liam was last seen heading towards Wylam Bridge, with the major search operation beginning in Northumberland on Sunday. The circumstances around his disappearance remain unclear as the search continues. Earlier on Saturday evening, an altercation in a nearby premises led to a collision on the Wylam Bridge, in which two people suffered serious injuries.

Two men have been arrested in connection with this, and have been bailed pending further enquiries. Liam was said to be on the bridge when this took place, however he was not in a vehicle, and there is no evidence to suggest he was injured, with it looking as if he left the scene afterwards and has been missing ever since.

We will continue to support his family, and we would ask the public to avoid speculation both online and in the community."

She added: "We would like to thank our colleagues from North of Tyne Mountain and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue teams for their continued support and all those who have helped with the searches so far."
