Reza Farahan, the prominent star of the reality television series Shahs of Sunset and The Valley: Persian Style, has candidly unveiled intimate details of his personal love life within the pages of his newly released memoir. The 52-year-old television personality exposes a lengthy 'friends with benefits' entanglement with the charismatic fitness trainer Bob Harper, aged 60, who gained widespread recognition as a host on the popular weight loss programme The Biggest Loser.
A Gym-Based Romance That Blossomed
Farahan and Harper initially crossed paths while both were employed as trainers at the same fitness facility, a position Farahan eventually departed. Subsequently, Farahan began attending Harper's exercise classes, and the pair rapidly became inseparable best friends. This close bond gradually incorporated a sexual dimension, developing into a casual romantic arrangement that persisted for an extended period.
'Bob and I carried on like that for a good while. It was very much a friends-with-benefits situation, though,' Farahan disclosed in his book. 'I wanted more, but I always got the feeling he wasn’t interested in any kind of serious relationship with anybody, so I didn’t really push the matter.'
The Complicated Introduction of a Third Party
The dynamic shifted significantly when Bob Harper entered into marriage with a man named Scott. Rather than ending their connection, Farahan transitioned into becoming 'best friends' with both individuals, leading the trio into a unconventional 'threesome' relationship. Farahan recounted that he and Harper 'still ended up falling totally in love,' with Harper 'bouncing back and forth between Scott and me' during this complex period.
This unconventional arrangement reached a devastating conclusion with a heartbreaking tragedy. 'The end of this story is a bit bittersweet. Poor Scott, who I honestly harbored no ill will toward even though I was chasing his husband, ended up passing away,' Farahan revealed, describing the emotional aftermath of this loss.
Realizations and Moving Forward
Reflecting on this chapter of his life, Farahan acknowledged that Harper's treatment within their relationship served as 'the catalyst for me to realize that this is not okay,' recognizing his own unwillingness to accept being in 'second place' to another partner. This epiphany fueled his desire for a more conventional, committed partnership.
'I really wanted to have a stable, long-term relationship with someone who was loving and loyal to me and only me,' explained the Tehran-born personality. 'Someone who was choosing to be with me above all others, and not out of desperation, either. Someone who had options, but was still choosing me.'
Subsequent Relationships and Enduring Connections
Farahan ultimately found that committed relationship with television editor Adam Neely, whom he began dating in 2010. The couple formalized their union five years later with a wedding ceremony in Palm Springs, establishing a marriage that continues to thrive today. Despite the conclusion of their romantic involvement, Farahan and Harper have maintained a lasting friendship.
In 2015, Harper publicly acknowledged their past liaison during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, referring to it as a 'tawdry little thing' while emphasizing their ongoing affection, stating: 'I love Reza, though, I love him!' Farahan, whose career as a real estate broker frequently features on his reality programmes, even facilitated a professional transaction for his former lover, noting: 'I actually sold Bob’s house for him a few months ago.'
The memoir, titled Memoirs of a Gay Shah: My Story of Family, Fame, and Becoming a King, which chronicles this intricate romantic history alongside other personal revelations, officially launched this Tuesday, offering readers an unfiltered glimpse into the reality star's private world.
